My Movie-Loving Animals

And a fun artists' directory listing

Who Doesn’t Love a Good Movie?

As the Sundance Film Festival comes to an end I’m thinking about animals and movies. Exploring human emotional responses to movies using the faces and body language of animals is a lot of fun. In this commissioned piece, a collector’s two dogs are enjoying a funny flick:

Walter and Maggie — 16”x20”

Here’s a terrified threesome — I personally love scary-but-not-too-scary movies:

Scary Movie III — 11”x14”

And here’s a sweet combination of three of my favorite things: sports cars, movies and transparent bunny ears:

Movie Night — 30”x24”

Speaking of scary movies, here are the twins from The Shining, part of a series of paintings based on the western Zodiac. (The original is available at Marine Arts Gallery.) I’m a dog person, but to hear my cat-owning friends talk, all cats are Geminis regardless of their birth month.

Gemini — 16”x16”

Lots of people talk to animals... Not very many listen, though... That's the problem.

Dogs, Snow and a Heartwarming Story About Teens

I’m especially intrigued by one movie at Sundance this year: Folktales, a documentary about a Norwegian folk school where teens take a gap year during high school to learning dog sledding and solo survival skills in the Arctic wilderness.

The story sounds fascinating, and the dogs are supposed to be incredible. I can’t wait—now it just needs to get a distribution or streaming deal so we can all watch it!
