A Goddess and a Couple of Wall Street Types

When I was a child in Taiwan, I entertained myself hand-illustrating fashionable outfits for my paper dolls. I still like to dress up dolls, except now I do it with oil paint and my models are animals. For instance, check out these work-in-progress photos of “Little Goddess”:

Here my subject is patiently waiting for her tutu, apple blossom flower, and feet. I’ll paint the wood floor last so I can be sure to get the tones right to offset the chair, which is also wood. The apple blossom symbolizes peace.

This is a photo of the piece just finished — my assistant’s smartphone camera picked up some stippling effects, and the oils are drying a bit chalky. Once the painting is fully dry and varnished, I’ll take a high resolution photograph to use for promotion and print sales. You might still see stippling caused by the underlying canvas texture, but the light defects and chalky texture will be gone. The original will be in my solo show at CODA Gallery in Palm Desert, California in December.

Lots of people talk to animals... Not very many listen, though .… That's the problem.

Upcoming Exhibits

I’ve been accepted in the Zions Bank Art Show on November 7, 2024. The show is held at the Zions Technology Center in Midvale, Utah. It’s a fun event with a great assortment of artists, and always good food. Here’s "Wall Street Gothic” — one of the pieces I’ll be showing:
