Confessions of a Chickaholic

When I first returned to oil painting in the late 2000s, I became a biiit obsessed with baby chicks. You can buy baby chicks at the IFA Farmer’s Cooperative — most people buy them to raise to chickens for eggs. I bought them to use as models. I eventually painted over 500 paintings of baby chicks. Here’s a collage of a few:

This obsession eventually found another outlet in my Yoga Chick paintings:

I released my first Yoga Chick painting in 2021 and both the originals and prints have been very popular, so maybe I’m not the only person with a chick obsession!

The End of the Line

For years I’ve used this soap “Slik Skin” to clean my brushes after Gamsol. It’s a janitorial hand soap with lanolin and glycerin that also happens to be a great brush cleaner and conditioner. I love it! It was made by Hylon-Koburn Chemicals in Salt Lake City, but it’s no longer available. I bought up every ounce I could find a few years ago, but now I’m down to the dregs in this last jug. Sadness. If anyone happens to have any sitting around under their sink or in their garage, get in touch!

Winter Studio Open House

Save the date! November 15-16, 2024 is our annual in-studio open house. Together with my studio-mates Susan Jarvis and Erin Ebert I’ll have original works, giclées, prints, calendars, cards and other fun gift ideas for sale. And, ARTIST ALERT! — this year I’m condensing some of my framing overstock, so I’ll have a bunch of frames, panels and other art supplies for sale.
